As a first-generation Asian-American, I watched my parents start over in a foreign country with a language barrier and lack of resources and support. Through their sacrifice, I learned the value of hard work and dedication at a very young age.
My journey has been what some would call unconventional - as a young woman lacking guidance, I struggled finding my place in the world. At age 16, I secured my first job and worked my way through high school and college. At 21, I received my B.A. in Business Management and Marketing, from the University of Washington. Post-graduation, I secured a job and continued to further my education by taking online courses and fully immersing myself in code during any free time. At 22, I decided to start over and pursue my passion for Software Engineering.
I try to learn from every obstacle that I face, and turn every outcome into an achievement, or an experience to learn from.
I am a Software Engineer with a previous marketing background, living in Seattle, Washington. While my path to software engineering hasn't been the most straight forward, I am grateful for my experience in both business and tech as they have offered me unique perspectives. Having experiences in both industries, I believe I bring a unique value since I am constantly trying to improve with an engineer-mindset and a business-forward drive.
As a female minority in the industry, I take pride in promoting positivity and confidence to others in the field. I strive to be a lifelong learner and find new ways to achieve personal growth.
I find coding extremely challenging and equally as rewarding. My goal is to bring value to a company that challenges me daily, with an enthusiastic team/environment that I can learn from.
The purpose of my blog is to provide an inspirational space for femininity and cultivate a community of strong women. It is a platform to share my experiences and insight during my continuing journey. I want to provide encouragement and become a resource to anyone that is interested in exploring the tech field.
